at home again

This will be the 3rd Sunday in a row that we won't be going to church because of these yuck colds...  this week it's Wyatt who is coughing bad with a very sore throat.

Since our Sunday plans have now changed...   I think I'll be doing some bread baking with a new recipe I found this morning.

One Rise Homemade Bread

This will be good with the leftovers from our potato soup last night!  Yum!

cold wind - hot soup

D's been outside ALL day in the cold and wind hooking up our new outdoor wood furnace, so I figured he needed a supper of hot soup and biscuits.  We first had this Potato Soup when a friend made it for a get-together.  While it's just a simple soup to put together, it is very good with great flavor.  I served with my grandma's homemade biscuit recipe.

Janie's Hearty Potato Soup
3T butter
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 medium carrot (or a couple handfuls of baby carrots), sliced or chopped
2 T flour
1 qt milk
6 medium potatoes, diced (I don't even peel them)
2 T chopped parsley (I didn't have)
1/2 tsp seasoning salt
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 tsp salt

Melt the butter in a soup pot.  Add onion and carrot.  Once bubbly, blend in flour and gradually stir in milk and the bouillon cube.  When slightly thickened, add the diced potatoes, parsley and seasonings.  Cook on LOW for about 45 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the soup has thickened.  You can choose to use a potato masher to mash some of the potatoes once tender --- this results in an even thicker soup.
Makes 4-6 servings.

(the original recipe doesn't call for it, but I added about 1 cup chopped ham because I had it in the fridge)  :)

Friday Favs [on Saturday]

I had every intention of getting Friday Favs done --well-- on Friday  :) but things kept coming up and it never got done.
Since it's not a secret anymore that Baby #4 is on the way, I can now share a couple of my pregnancy related favs.

They are so comfy to lounge around in!

Maternity Scoop Tank from Old Navy.
In my opinion, the BEST maternity tank.  I also like the Gap tanks, but the Old Navy are a bit thicker, which I like if I'm wearing it with a cardigan that is open.

The best and hard to find in stores!

I first received a sample of this to use before blowdrying my hair.  I now have a large size ordered.  It takes a lot of the static out of my hair in the winter and leaves my hair very shiny after blowdrying.

Blue Bunny Raspberry Sherbet
Yum!  and no fat!  :)

I don't normally wear eyeliner, but I do really like this light brown color.  And this particular pencil does go on very smooth and doesn't pull.

Umm...   free 2 day shipping or $3.99 for 1 day shipping is hard to beat...
I've been using it for nearly 4 years and the yearly rate to have it pays for itself so quickly!

Miss A - Miss Goof

I've been too busy the past few days to get new pictures on the computer and then to the blog, so tonight I'm putting these up of Miss Goof.  :)  She took them herself...  can ya tell?  :)

Cold hens - Sad me

All three of our egg crates are empty...... Completely empty.... Darn winter only gives us 1-2 eggs a day and I use them up as fast as they roll out of the hen's rump. Someone please help me talk my hubby into 10 more hens! :-)

Family Christmas #3

This was our final Christmas of the year...

Here are the kids opening their new State sweatshirts from their Great Grandpa..

Family Christmas #2

The day after Christmas, we got together at mom and dad's with Kayleen's family.  We also got some great "face" time with Clint via Skype.  Here is Audrey giving him a high five!
It's always interesting to hear about his life in Afghanistan right now.

"Hi Clint!"
